Post What To Look For In A Packaging Supplier   Sat Aug 13, 2011 12:45 pm

When it comes to buying packaging then you need to have a careful look at your supplier.

Firstly, in these days of "Green packaging", what is their environmental policy, indeed do they even have one? Due to the recycling pressures that are being placed upon companies these days then you really should pick one that has a good recycling policy and that pro-actively looks at its supply chain from a "Green" perspective.

Also if you want to get the best packaging prices from your supplier then you need to think about moving away from a high street stationery / packaging supplier to an online supplier.

There are several good reasons to do this as a) If your high street supplier does not have the packaging in stock that you need to buy then you can often find it hard to find out when it will be back in stock, b) they are likely to be carrying far higher stock levels, and accordingly far less likely to run out of stock, c) they will be far cheaper as they are not carrying the same kind of overheads in comparison to a high street store.

They will also be cheaper as they will be shipping you goods from a warehouse that has no need for pricing labels on goods or shelves, nor any need to have any point of sale posters or promotions etc. All of which save you money.

In addition if they are out of stock, if you have ordered online then they will immediately put your goods on back order and tell you when they will be back in stock and hence dispatched.

When it comes to choosing an online packaging retailer then you should look for one that has an ordering system that is intuitive, and hence fast to use, as the faster you can order the more time, and hence money you save. Indeed if you order the same packaging materials month in, month out then look for a stationery e-tailer that gives you the option to save your "Favourites" in your shopping cart.

If they offer this as an option then this is very good as if you are in a hurry it can simplify the ordering process down from ten to fifteen minutes to just a few seconds and a couple of clicks.

Also always ask for references from your packaging supplier from other customers who have similar demands to your own.
